Built in the sixteenth century, thanks to the bequest of a wealthy doctor from Teggiano
The church was built in the sixteenth century, but its interior was restored in the nineteenth century, following a fire.
In 1526 Giovanni Carrano, a doctor from Teggiano, left a donation for the construction of the building.
On the interior capitals, the coat of arms of the Carrano family, with a cart wheel, can be seen. Like the Malavoltas of the previous century, the Carrano family also linked their social rise to the practice of the medical profession and actively participated in the artistic and cultural life of the city.
An element of particular interest in the Church of San Martino lies in the pronounced taste for variation, demonstrated in the capitals of the nave.
