The Knight’s Ospedale

The Domus Ospitaliera

Built in the 15th century, the Ospedale of the Knights of Malta is currently a private residence. The Hospitaller Order of Jerusalem had one of its priories in Barletta. The Ospedale was built close to the ancient city center, on the ancient Strada del Cambio, one of the main arteries of the city, today known as Corso Cavour, and near two important churches: Santa Chiara and Santa Lucia.

However, only the ground floor retains its primary appearance, with a facade made of large stone blocks. There were three entrance doors and they are still visible: the lateral ones, which retain their pointed arch shape, are partly walled up and hold windows. The central door, however, is larger, and can be distinguished by its round arch.
