Enrico Pandone

Count of Venafro sentenced to death for treason, he made the city castle a rich noble residence, where he could show off his prized horses

The Son of the Count of Venafro and an Aragonese princess, he also became related to the powerful Acquaviva d'Aragona house, marrying a daughter of the Marquis of Bitonto. Despite economic difficulties, the couple continued to maintain and display a high-level noble profile. Enrico's patronage mainly concerned the renovation of the castle of Venafro, which he turned into an elegant seat of the feudal court, and its decoration with a magnificent cycle of frescoes depicting the family horses, a true obsession of the count. He initially served the Habsburg Crown, during the attempted invasion of the Kingdom by the French army led by the Duke of Albania, and took part in the victorious battle at Porta San Paolo, in Rome. However, during the next expedition by the Viscount of Lautrec he decided to support the French and for this he was captured in Venafro, suffering the confiscation of his possessions and was beheaded.
