Carbonara family

Noble and rich family from Tropea, involved in commissioning the statue of Saint Paul in the cathedral

The Carbonara family was accredited to the nobility of Tropea in 1567. According to Abbot Francesco Sergio, author of the manuscript entitled Chronologica Collectanea sive Chronicorum de civitate Tropea (18th century), the family was as ancient as it was wealthy.

Among its exponents were Iacovello, who together with exponents of the Galluppi and Barone families, commissioned the Statue of Saint Paul in the cathedral.

Another exponent was Porzia, a "venerable matron" according to Sergio, and widow of Scipione Adisi (also from a noble family in Tropea), founder of the Clarisse monastery of S. Maria della Pietà and Sette Dolori (17th century).
