Scattaretica family

From Salerno, they carved out an eminent position for themselves in the Tropea patriciate with refined commissions

Originally from Salerno, where the family is recorded from the mid-13th century, it included important jurists and clerics. A branch of the family was also in Nicotera starting in the beginning of the fifteenth century, with exponents who were among the most illustrious citizens. Perhaps the Scattaretica family moved to Tropea from there, and were included in the nobility in the sixteenth century, holding top positions such as mayor. They are related to some of the main families of the city, such as the Galluppi.

The commission of the angel in the sculptural group of the Annunciation, found in the church of the Annunziata in Tropea, can probably be traced back to one of the members of the family, perhaps to Annibale.
