Giuseppe Galzerano

An exponent of the cultural elite of Tropea, who became mayor of the city

The dates of birth and death of this personality are not known. He was a member of the city's patriciate whose first known documentary mention is represented by the commissioning of the relief of the Nativity for his own chapel.

The fact that this was carried out in the cathedral demonstrates the prestige Galzerano already had in those years, further proven by his election as mayor of Tropea together with Giovanni Antonio Romano in 1616.

The following year he contributed to approving a substantial reward in favor of the jurist Luigi Lauro, who had obtained the return of Tropea to state ownership from Emperor Philip III, after its enfeoffment to the prince of Scilla Vincenzo Ruffo for economic reasons.

During his mandate, he promoted a series of restorations, including of the main urban aqueduct.

He is also mentioned in the chronicles of his time as having been miraculously cured of the malignant fever that spread through the city in 1642, after having made a vow to San Domenico in the namesake sanctuary in Soriano Calabro.
